How Matching Works

A private, structured, and intentional approach to connecting musicians and bands.

1. Overview

Musician Broker uses a privacy‑first matching model. There are no public profiles, no browsing, and no unsolicited messages. Instead, the platform compares structured profile information to identify compatibility and present matches privately to each user.

2. Your Profile

During onboarding, you provide details such as instruments, genres, experience, availability, and musical goals. This information is used exclusively for matching and is never displayed publicly or indexed on search engines.

3. How Matches Are Generated

Matches are created by comparing your profile data with others in the system. Factors such as musical style, skill level, location, and availability influence compatibility. Matches are suggestions, not guarantees, and are based solely on the information provided by users.

4. Nudges

A nudge is a polite, low‑pressure reminder that becomes available only after a band has already accepted a musician’s profile and a mutual match has been created. At this point, both sides have expressed interest, but the band has not yet unlocked the match to view the musician’s contact information.

Nudges exist to keep the process moving without creating pressure or spam. When a musician sends a nudge, it simply notifies the band that the musician is ready to move forward and encourages them to unlock the match when they are ready. No personal information is shared when a nudge is sent.

To maintain a respectful and intentional experience, nudges include a three‑day cooldown period. This prevents repeated reminders and ensures that bands have time to review their matches without feeling overwhelmed.

5. Mutual Interest

Contact information is revealed only when both parties explicitly indicate interest. Until then, all interactions remain anonymous and private.

6. Workflow Statuses & Actions

Musician Broker uses a clear, action‑based workflow. Each match shows only the actions that are appropriate for its current stage. These collapsible sections explain what each action means and when it becomes available.

Request Contact

Indicates that you want to move forward with the match. When you request contact, the other party can see your interest and decide whether to accept or decline. No personal information is shared at this stage.

Unrequest Contact

Allows you to withdraw your request if you change your mind. This returns the match to a neutral state without notifying the other party.

Dismiss

Closes the match on your side. This indicates that you are not interested in moving forward. No contact information is shared, and the match becomes inactive unless you choose to restore it.

Undismiss

Restores a previously dismissed match. This reopens the match and allows you to continue evaluating or interacting with it.

Reveal Contact Info

Available only after both parties have requested contact. When you choose this option, your contact information is shared with the other party. This is a mutual, intentional step and never happens automatically.

Nudge Band

A polite reminder available only after the band has already accepted the musician’s profile and a mutual match exists. Nudges encourage the band to unlock the match when they are ready. To prevent spam, nudges include a three‑day cooldown period.

Archive

Moves the match out of your active list. This is useful for staying organized or setting aside matches you are not currently pursuing. Archived matches remain private and can be restored.

Unarchive

Restores an archived match to your active list. No notifications are sent to the other party.

Unlock

This action is available to bands after mutual interest has been established. Unlocking a match allows the band to view the musician’s contact information. This is the final step before the two parties can communicate directly outside the platform.

These actions ensure that every interaction is intentional, transparent, and aligned with the privacy‑first design of the platform. At no point is your information shared without explicit, mutual agreement.

7. Contact Information Exchange

Contact details are shared only after mutual acceptance. Administrators may reach out for clarification if one party requests additional information before agreeing, but your contact information is never shared without explicit consent.

8. Why This System Works

The platform is designed to reduce noise, eliminate spam, and create meaningful connections. By focusing on privacy and intentionality, Musician Broker helps musicians and bands find the right fit without distractions.
